Tanzania Conservation Safari
June 20 – 30, 2022
African People & Wildlife is delighted you will be joining the 2022 Tanzania Conservation Safari. Below you will find important information that will be useful for registering and planning your trip to Tanzania.
TRAVEL INSURANCE:
Elevate Destinations requires that all travelers have travel and medical insurance that covers them for Covid-related expenses and costs associated with quarantine. Elevate Destinations recommends that travelers evaluate the insurance options available for their needs and inquire with providers about “cancel for any reason” insurance.
Below are two insurance brokers that Elevate Destinations recommends.
1. Yonder Insurance – You are welcome to purchase travel insurance
2. Travel Insurance Center – Dan Drennen is the representative who Elevate Destinations works with. To inquire with Dan about insurance policies he offers, you can reach him by email at dan@
Guests may acquire travel insurance through Yonder, Travel Insurance Center, or any other travel company of their choosing. If you purchase insurance with Yonder or Travel Insurance Center, please be sure to tell them you have booked your trip though Elevate Destinations. Elevate Destinations recommends that travelers evaluate the insurance options available for their needs and inquire with providers about insurance that will provide coverage if the trip needs to be cancelled.
INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS:
International flights are booked by travelers independently. If you would like the contact information for a trusted independent travel agent, Elevate Destinations is happy to provide you with this information. Kindly forward your international flight information to Dana (dana@elevatedestinations.com) once you have booked your flights.
We recommend arriving and departing on the following dates, but you are welcome to arrive earlier or depart later:
- Arrival: Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)* before 4:00 pm on June 20th*, 2022
- Departure: Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) after 4:00 pm on June 30th, 2022
*While the program begins on June 20th, please let us know if you would like to arrive earlier or stay later and we’d be happy to assist with your arrangements. Please see the Extend Your Travel tab for more information.
Please note that the domestic flight will have luggage restrictions, and pack accordingly for your international flight (see Destination Information).
PASSPORT:
Check to see that your passport is current and valid for at least six months beyond your trip departure date. Please upload a copy of your passport to this secure Dropbox folder. Your passport should have at least 2 blank pages for the entry and exit stamps, or more if you are visiting several countries on this trip. Please note that the last two amendment pages are not acceptable for visas and immigration stamps.
VISA/TOURIST CARD:
A visa is required for U.S. citizens to travel to Tanzania. We recommend reading the guidelines to apply for a Tanzanian visa. Travelers can obtain a visa online in advance of travel or upon their arrival.
We recommend that travelers apply for an e-visa at least 2 months before travel. Applicants may complete the e-visa application form for a tourist visa and make payment online with a credit card or bank transfer. The cost of a single-entry ordinary tourist visa is $50 for U.S. citizens. If the e-visa is approved, the applicant will receive a “grant notice” via email. Present a copy of the grant notice to the Immigration Officer upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport. If you would like to use a visa-processing service, we recommend A1 Passport and Visa in Washington DC, for their great customer service. For questions regarding your visa application you can reach A1 Passport directly at (202) 639 1500.
If you apply for your visas ahead of time, you may be asked to provide contact information on the visa applications. Please use the following address:
Asilia Africa
Burka Farm # 175
Olasiti Village
P.O. Box 1111
Arusha
If you decide to obtain a tourist visa upon arrival at the Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), you will be required to pay for your visa in cash. Please note that all bills must be in large denominations and must be crisp with no tears and newer than 2009.
Please be aware that the Kilimanjaro Airport has recently changed the process of issuing visas upon arrival. It can take up to 2 hours to obtain a visa at the airport as travelers need to go through the following process:
- Queue for a Government Control Number
- Pay for this at the bank
- Wait for the documentation and payment to be checked by an Officer who will issue the visa
