Together Women Rise: Journey to Malawi

WEATHER:

PLEASE READ: October is one of the hottest months in Malawi. Temperatures at the peak of the sun can reach close to 100 °F. It is, however, a dry heat, so humidity is not a concern. Due to their location, two of the lodges on the lake do not have A/C (Kachere Kastle and Mvuu Camp). The evenings do tend to cool off quite a bit, especially on the lake, and it should be comfortable for sleeping. That said, if you are particularly heat-sensitive, we recommend speaking to your primary care physician before signing up for this trip. You will have access to plenty of cold, safe drinking water throughout the trip. Be certain to bring plenty of sunblock lotion, a hat, and whatever else you may need to protect yourself from the sun.

ARRIVAL PROCEDURES:

Upon arrival at Kamuzu International Airport (LLW) in Lilongwe, you will go through immigration, baggage claim, and customs before exiting the airport. A representative will be waiting for you with a sign that has the Together Women Rise logo on it.

SPENDING MONEY:

The Together Women Rise Journey to Malawi trip is 10 days in total. Please note that most expenses have already been covered in the cost of the program. See below for the full list of inclusions and exclusions. For your extra personal costs and shopping, we suggest USD $25-50 per day depending on your needs.

Note: Gratuities are not included. Gratuities are a way to say “Thank you” to the many guides, drivers, and hard-working staff behind the scenes in Malawi. Please bring $100 cash (USD is fine) to give to your tour manager at the start of the program. Your tour manager will ensure that tips are distributed appropriately throughout the itinerary. Please also remember to bring an extra $2-$3 per day to leave behind in your hotel room for cleaning staff.
