Days for Girls: Nepal

November 5 – 11, 2023

Join us on an exciting and enlightening trip to Nepal — a country known as the “cultural powerhouse of the Himalayas.” In addition to learning about Nepalese history, culture, and wildlife, you will meet the women and girls who are leading Days for Girls Enterprises, teaching health education in schools, and sewing DfG Kits. On this trip, you will join up to eight other Days for Girls supporters to learn how Days for Girls Nepal is changing lives and communities.

During your travels, you will meet with the Days for Girls Nepal team, travel with them to meet Enterprise leaders, and participate in a number of distributions in the field. We will also dedicate time to explore some of the sights and wonders of Nepal.

Through this program, you will be offered the opportunity of a lifetime. Our small group will be able to see how their direct donations contribute to keeping girls in school and provide dignity and opportunity for so many.

Highlights

  • Be immersed in the historical and cultural context of Days for Girls work in Nepal.
  • Explore the ancient capital city of Kathmandu, surrounded by the Himalayan mountains.
  • Visit with girls whose lives are positively impacted by these global partnerships.
  • Spend two days in Chitwan National Park — home to rare species, dense forests, and grassy plains and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Itinerary

Day 1: Sunday, November 5
Arrival to Nepal

Welcome to Nepal! Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be met by a representative at Immigration who will assist through the immigration process.

After collecting your luggage, the representative will bring you to your driver to be transferred to the hotel.

The afternoon will be at your leisure, and in the evening, the group will convene for a special welcome dinner to kick off the journey ahead.

Overnight: Hyatt Regency

Day 2: Monday, November 6
Touring in Kathmandu

On your first full day in Nepal, begin with a leisurely breakfast, and then venture into this dynamic and bustling city for a day of cultural learning and sightseeing.

The day will start with a cooking lesson at the Seven Women Centre, exploring Nepalese culture through language and local cuisine. Beginning with a tour of the center and community greenhouse, you will learn the Nepali names for different vegetables and how traditional dishes were passed down from generation to generation. Dive into traditional cooking lessons with this community of Nepali women, who will share their recipes, cooking techniques, and the stories behind the dishes. End the visit by enjoying the delicious meal you have prepared with new friends!

In the afternoon, visit the Days for Girls office, where you will meet the staff who are working diligently on the Days For Girls Theory Of Change. This is an impact roadmap that illustrates the tangible short- and long-term outcomes of their two main activity streams — menstrual health solutions and education policy and advocacy.

If time allows, there will be some sightseeing around the city. Opportunities include learning about Nepal’s rich history and culture through famous landmarks such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Patan Durbar Square, the Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, or the Boudnath stupas.

Return to the hotel before tonight’s group dinner in Kathmandu.

Overnight: Hyatt Regency

Day 3: Tuesday, November 7
Site Visit at a Partner School

Today, visit one of Days for Girls’ partner schools to witness distribution of menstrual products and meet the girls whose lives are impacted by the menstrual kits and partnership.

In the afternoon, embark on a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu, which may include a visit to UNESCO World Heritage Site Durbar Square; the ancient hilltop stupa of Swayambhunath; the artisans’ city of Patan; the Hindu temple Pashupatinath; or the Boudhnath stupas.

Return back to the hotel in the late afternoon to relax and reflect on your day before dinner.

Overnight: Hyatt Regency

Day 4: Wednesday, November 8
Transfer to Chitwan National Park

After an early breakfast, fly to Chitwan National Park. Enjoy two full days exploring Nepal’s first national park, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, at the foot of the Himalayan Mountains. Chitwan is known for being the best wildlife-viewing park in Asia — home to one-horned rhinos, Bengal tigers, deer, monkeys, wild boar, and over 544 bird species!

After lunch at the lodge, the group can either spend the day participating in activities at the lodge or visiting Days for Girls’ partners.

Overnight: Bahari Jungle Lodge

Day 5: Thursday, November 9
Partner Visit and Wildlife Viewing

Today will include a combination of learning and wildlife viewing. Depending on schedules, you will visit one of Days for Girls’ partners and learn firsthand about their projects and impact on the local community.

In the late afternoon, embark on an amazing adventure by dug-out canoe down the Rapti River before enjoying sundowners in a beautiful setting in nature.

Overnight: Bahari Jungle Lodge

Day 6: Friday, November 10
Flight to Kathmandu

After breakfast at the lodge, check out and transfer to the Bharatpur Airport for your flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the Hyatt to check in.

Gather for lunch in Kathmandu with optional sightseeing in the afternoon.

This evening will be spent reflecting on all you have experienced together in Nepal with a final farewell dinner.

Overnight: Hyatt Regency

Day 7: Saturday, November 11
