Venture into Uganda’s remote wilderness

In the remote and far reaches of Northern Uganda, you'll find the epic Kidepo National Park. Bordering Western Kenya, it shares the diverse wildlife and similar habitat to that of the Maasai Mara.

Here you can look for large herds of antelope, zebra, and “stretches” of giraffes. It’s a great park for tracking cheetahs and lions and watching large families of elephants move through the landscape.

With over 20 species of primates, Uganda has many species of monkeys. In Kidepo, you can see black and white colobus monkeys, pata monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and olive baboons — a variety of species that thrive in the open savanna landscape rather than dense forests.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1

Kidepo Valley National Park

From Entebbe, you will fly to Kidepo airstrip where a driver will be waiting to escort you to the Kidepo Valley National park and Apoka Safari Lodge.

Apoka Safari Lodge is located in the middle of rugged savanna-land of Kidepo Valley National Park. Game drives and walks at Apoka are directed by nature not time and offer a diversity of wildlife viewing.

Day 2 - 4

Kidepo Valley National Park

You have three days to indulge in your new surroundings. Enjoy a walking safari along a sandy dry riverbed fringed with palm trees or climb to the top of a rocky outcrop and take in the spectacular views. Move slowly along isolated tracks to fully appreciate everything around you, looking for tracks and signs of the animals’ movements. You can stop at any point to investigate further. Track the lions, cheetah, zebra, waterbuck, Jackson’s hartebeest, warthogs, patas monkeys and huge herds of buffalo.

Afterwards, relax in your outdoor bathtub under the stars or take a dip in the big rock swimming pool. The pool overlooks a waterhole where animals frequently gather to drink. It can be a fabulous place for wildlife viewing while having dinner or relaxing at the lodge's lounge.
