Together Women Rise:
Journey to Malawi
OCTOBER 1 – 11, 2024
Welcome to the Together Women Rise trip to Malawi!
Malawi is affectionately dubbed “the warm heart of Africa, and boasts unspoiled beauty that combines ‘bush and beach’. This small country also has another story to tell – one of welcoming and age-old culture, tradition, and crafts. On this once-in-a-lifetime journey with Together Women Rise, you’ll have the opportunity to witness the reach of Rise’s support to women and girls in Malawi. From financing and advocating for female entrepreneurs, after-school programs for adolescent girls, to sustainable and efficient stone cookstoves, you will explore programs that support gender equality from different angles.
Your journey will begin in Lilongwe and end on Malawi’s most coveted feature, Lake Malawi, which is characterized by clear waters and an abundance of tropical freshwater fish. Along the way, you will visit and interact with four of Together Women Rise’s grantees, including:
- Ripple Africa – Rise’s funds supported the construction of the sustainable, fuel-efficient, Changu Changu Moto cook stoves which benefit women and girls in many ways.
- Advancing Girls’ Education in Africa (AGE Africa) – Rise supported an after-school life skills program for girls.
- The Mooncatcher Project – Rise’s grant provided girls with the tools and knowledge to manage their menstrual periods, including the Mooncatcher kits with washable menstrual pads.
- Shared Interest – Rise funded a project that helped women farmers and entrepreneurs grow climate-resilient seeds; while also partnering with Shared Interest to drive changes in how the banking system services women entrepreneurs.
