Full Day with DREAM project
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel this morning before departing for your first grantee visit with the DREAM Project! After breakfast, you will drive through Cabarete to DREAM’s flagship center, which opened in 2009. Over the next two days you will learn and see firsthand how the organization’s literacy, early childhood education, youth leadership, and community programs provide quality education and resources to at-risk children and youth. Through DREAM’s Única program that Together Women Rise provided funding for, the organization seeks to dismantle traditional gender norms and develop girls’ and women’s skills in leadership, critical thinking, problem solving, and communication. This project aims to improve knowledge about sexual and reproductive health, equip women and girls with skills to make healthy decisions, and foster gender-equitable attitudes.
Today’s visit will start with a tour of the center to learn about programs that empower young men and women through sports, games, and peer-to-peer leadership. You’ll then have the opportunity to experience their work in action by participating in activities with the youth at their center.
In the afternoon, you will have lunch at a seafood restaurant that overlooks the Rio Yasica, a river that flows from the mountains outside of Cabarete. Afterwards, return to the center for a conversation on what it is like to be a girl/woman in the Dominican Republic in all areas of daily life including education, employment, entrepreneurship, healthcare, reproductive rights and governmental policies.
Return to your hotel this evening to rest and relax. Then join the group for dinner at a nearby restaurant.
