END Fund Learning Trip to Nigeria

October 20 – 23, 2024

Join the END Fund in Abuja, Nigeria, the country with the largest neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) burden in Africa. View and celebrate the achievements of the END Fund, the Federal Ministry of Health, and local partners through over a decade of partnership.

During the trip, see firsthand the progress made toward eliminating NTDs in Nigeria, where all five of the most common NTDs are present. Visit local hospitals to view the work of and hear directly from Nigerian partners. We look forward to hosting you and showcasing the life-changing work your support has helped to facilitate.

Itinerary

Day 1: Sunday, October 20
Arrivals & Welcome Reception

Welcome to Nigeria! Arrive at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (ABV), where you will be met by a VIP Meet & Greet representative as you step off the jetway. They will escort you through immigration, baggage claim, and customs, then connect you with your driver in the arrivals hall.

Transfer to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city and political center. The drive can take up to one hour, depending on traffic.

Check in to your hotel, the Transcorp Hilton Abuja. Take some time to settle before this evening’s Welcome Reception and Dinner, which will begin around 5:00 PM.

Day 2: Monday, October 21
Site Visits

Breakfast is available at your leisure starting at 6:00 AM in the Bukka Restaurant in your hotel.

After breakfast, depart for your first site visit. Drive to the Model Primary School for a mass drug administration (MDA) and conversation with the school’s medical team and patients.

Then head to Owner Occupier Model Primary Health Care Centre Kubwa, where you will tour the facility and meet with patients with hydrocele, a symptom of lymphatic filariasis. Speak to the surgeons who are developing their treatments.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, then continue on to meet with the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Health and tour their AiD-X lab that houses a multi-diagnostic automated microscope for the rapid detection of schistosomiasis, and mapping.

Return to the hotel and have dinner at your leisure this evening.

Day 3: Tuesday, October 22
Partner Meetings & Gala

This morning, come together for a partners workshop with Nigerian and international partners and the Federal Ministry of Health, as well as representatives from other END Fund-supported countries to discuss the challenges and progress made towards disease elimination. Breakfast will be served outside of the meeting room.

Enjoy a buffet lunch at the hotel, then participate in optional sightseeing, for which details are still to come.

A cocktail reception and gala dinner will take place at the hotel ballroom this evening. Enjoy speeches, dinner, and entertainment to celebrate the milestones reached over more than 10 years of END Fund’s partnership in Nigeria.

Day 4: Wednesday, October 23
Partner Meetings, Sightseeing & Departures

Breakfast is available at your leisure starting at 6:00 AM in the Bukka Restaurant in your hotel.

Depending on your departure time, you may attend a community MDA. The afternoon may include advocacy meetings or optional sightseeing until 5:00 PM, before evening departures.

You will be transferred to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (ABV) based on your individual departure time.
