Everyone deserves the chance to travel. Yet, all too often, seeing the world is a privilege reserved for the global elite. At Elevate Destinations, we’re on a mission to democratize tourism. We aim to connect local youths to their own environments as travelers and stewards.
Through our innovative Buy a Trip, Give a Trip model, your trip purchase creates travel opportunities for local kids. For the first time, they experience nearby natural and cultural wonders, see the sights, have fun, and make the kind of travel memories we often take for granted.
Since our beginnings, giving back has been a core aspect of our brand, driving us to positively impact the communities and environments of the destinations we visit.
Here’s a recent story that brings Buy a Trip, Give a Trip to life.
THE TRAVELERS:
On June 20, 2026, a group of students between the ages of 3-18 living at a children’s home in Chiang Mai set off for a day of adventure in Lampang Province. Tourists are drawn to this Northern Thai province for its beautiful Lanna architecture, famous ceramics factories, and tranquil jungle scenery. For most of the children, this was their first time in the province, and they were excited to become tourists for the day and discover these sites for themselves.
THE DETAILS:
The day began at the world’s first elephant hospital, Friends of the Asian Elephant Foundation, where they met with staff who provided a tour of the facility and shared the stories of the elephants in care and the work being done to heal them.
The visit sparked new career aspirations for many students, who were inspired to become veterinarians after hearing stories about how some of the elephants had been injured and learning about the efforts to treat and rehabilitate them.
It was then time for lunch at a nearby restaurant, where many kids sampled local dishes they’d never had before. The owner and restaurant staff were delighted to welcome the children from the foundation, and were honored to provide them with a memorable dining experience.
After time to re-fuel, the adventure continued at the Dhanabadee Ceramics Museum & Factory. The museum celebrates Lampang’s rich ceramic history, most notably the iconic, hand-painted “Chicken Bowl.”
The museum staff guided the students through the museum as they took in the beautiful local craftsmanship. The kids then gathered around as talented artisans demonstrated how these works are made traditionally.
Students then had the opportunity to try out these techniques during a hands-on ceramic painting workshop. With much excitement and curiosity, students followed their artistic whims, selecting a variety of colors and designs to bring their ceramic pieces to life.
The day concluded with a drive back to the children’s home as students shared their masterpieces and reflected on their day of exploration.
THE IMPACT:
This visit raised awareness among local community members about the lives and experiences of students from the children’s home. It encouraged greater understanding, empathy, and compassion, while also inspiring people to consider how they can contribute positively and support vulnerable children as part of a caring and inclusive society.
For the students, the day presented an opportunity to have fun and try new things, including new foods and skills. By meeting directly with staff at the elephant hospital and museum, the children learned more about local craftsmanship and environmental initiatives, asked questions, and gained valuable insights from people with diverse skills and experiences. The day broadened their perspectives and encouraged them to think about new opportunities and aspirations for their future.
