COVID PROTOCOLS AND REGULATIONS
Elevate Destinations continues to monitor the global pandemic both domestically and in Kenya. We will continue to update this page prior to departure with any changes in local or international travel regulations.
TO ENTER KENYA, TRAVELERS MUST:
Provide Kenyan E-Visa upon entry.
Please note: As of May 4, 2023, Kenya no longer requires proof of COVID-19 vaccine or negative PCR test within 72 hours before departure. We still highly recommend traveling with your Covid Vaccine Card. You can download the CLEAR App (download the app here) on your mobile phone to generate a digital copy of your Covid Vaccine Card.
If you have flu-like symptoms, you will be stopped for a PCR test at your own cost.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS TRIP:
- Covid vaccination: Be fully vaccinated for Covid and up to date with any additional doses of the vaccine you are eligible for. Keep a copy of your vaccine certificate (paper and digital copy) with you throughout the trip.
- Monitor your symptoms: Inform your guide if you experience Covid-related symptoms. Your guide can arrange a PCR test for you, at your own expense. The cost of a Covid test in Kenya ranges between $50 – $100 USD.
- Quarantine: If you test positive for Covid, we ask that you self-isolate for 5 days, at your own expense. Please read the CDC guidelines here.
- Travel and medical insurance: Purchase travel and medical insurance that covers Covid-related expenses and costs associated with quarantine.
COVID PROTOCOLS:
During the trip, travelers will be asked to abide by the following guidelines:
- Abide by countrywide Covid protocols and restrictions.
- Wear a face mask in enclosed areas such as vehicles and during site visits with AJWS’ grantees, and as required in public spaces in Kenya.
- Self-monitor, and take a Covid PCR test if you are experiencing Covid-related symptoms.
- Daily testing: Each individual will be required to take an at-home Covid test each morning before convening with the group for breakfast. If the test is positive, the individual will be required to take a PCR test and follow the CDC’s quarantine guidelines, listed below.
Quarantine Protocols
Note: Any quarantine costs are at the traveler’s expense.
If you had no symptoms, you may end isolation after day 5 and wear a mask for the remainder of the trip.
If you had symptoms and
- Your symptoms are improving, you may end isolation after day 5, if you are fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication)
- Your symptoms are not improving, continue to isolate until you are fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication) or your symptoms are improving.
- In both scenarios, travelers will be asked to wear a face mask after exiting quarantine.
If you had symptoms and had
- Moderate illness (experienced a shortness of breath or difficulty breathing), you need to isolate through day 10.
- Severe illness (hospitalized) or have a weakened immune system, you need to isolate through day 10 – consult your doctor before ending isolation – test negative for Covid.
- In both scenarios, travelers will be asked to wear a face mask after exiting quarantine.
Regardless of when you exit quarantine, you will be asked to do the following until 11 days after you tested positive :
- Avoid being around people who are likely to get very sick from Covid.
- Wear a high-quality mask when indoors and in public.
