Day 1: Transfer from Lima to Juliaca:
Early reception at Juliaca , where you board the private vehicle to drive across the altiplano and through a 15,000-foot pass and down to the jungle to launch the boat.
Day 2: Tambopata River
As you leave the last traces of civilization, you enter pristine rainforest using the river as a highway into the heart of the jungle. Along the way, you’ll float down the river camping on sandy beaches. Dinner is prepared and served by your guides; perhaps you’ll even have some wildlife guests as well!
The river remains relatively calm as your guide navigates class II and III rapids. Now you really start to see a variety of different bird species, and animals like anteaters and the charismatic giant river otters! In the afternoon, arrive at your campsite to relax and enjoy a delicious dinner.
Today the landscape begins to change little by little as the river narrows and the rapids increase in difficulty (class III and IV). We will continue seeing splendid native birds and even monkeys!
Surrounded by lush vegetation, today you’ll run class III and IV rapids. As you enter deeper into the lowland jungle, there is a good chances of running chance that you’ll see monkeys, capybaras, tapirs and giant river otters among other animals. Your journey will take you through to a magical macaw claylick where you’ll camp on the river’s shore.
Today we will encounter a very calm section of the river, which will allow us to observe the flora and fauna while relaxing.
Eventually, arrive at the Tambopata Research Center (TRC) where you will enjoy the hot showers and nice meals at this lovely Ecolodge set in the jungle. In the afternoon, hike some of the trails around the area.
Day 8: Rio Tambopata to Puerto Maldonado
At the crack of dawn, awaken to the sound of rowdy macaws and watch their bright colors light of the dull colors of the clay riverbank. Later, head out by dug-out motor canoe to the frontier town of Puerto Maldonado.

Day 9: Cusco
Early morning transfer from the Hotel to Puerto Maldonado to Cusco Airport and flight out or book a customized extension to see Machu Picchu
