Fiji: Island Exploration

The remote location of the Fiji Islands offers exotic mysteries, tempting discoveries, and magical escapes. The lush islands surround you with breathtaking tropical beauty and afford both restorative relaxation and invigorating adventure. Unwind from your busy schedule in your treehouse accommodations on the Yasawa Islands; bask in the sun on the white, sandy beaches; or take a dip in the pure salty sea while snorkeling or diving.

This itinerary exposes you to the environmental diversity of Fiji, as well as its cultural richness. You will have the opportunity to assist in volunteer projects throughout the Fijian islands and learn traditional cultural ceremonies and customs that only few people have had the chance to experience.  Become an active participant in Fiji’s sustainable development service projects while you are warmly welcomed into the Fijian community.

Day 1: Denarau Island
Overnight: Sofitel Resort and Spa

Bula and welcome to Fiji!  A representative will meet you at Nadi International Airport once customs and immigration formalities are concluded and transfer you to your hotel.

Enjoy a relaxing day trip to the beautiful Natadola Beach and the Sigatoka sand dunes.

Day 2: The Yasawa Islands
Overnight: Nanuya Island Resort

All aboard!  This morning, after enjoying a tropical breakfast, it will be time to board your transport vessel bound for the beautiful Yasawa Islands.  Enjoy a four-hour cruise through a chain of picturesque islands, featuring the white sand beaches and swaying palm trees that Fiji is famous for.  Relax on the deck, enjoy a bite to eat, and chat with your fellow travelers as you cruise northward toward your destination.

Your home for the next four nights will be a boutique resort located right on the water’s edge.  Featuring four deluxe villas and eight traditional tree house bures, a white sandy beach, fabulous snorkeling, and amazing diving only minutes away, your time here will be relaxing and invigorating.

Day 3: The Yasawa Islands
Nanuya Island Resort

Today, travel to the remote Fijian village of Malakati.  Situated on a beautiful bay, the village offers unique insight into the hospitable local culture.  Due to the village’s remoteness, visitors can expect a wonderful welcome and the opportunity to share in the traditional cultural ceremonies and customs that few people have the chance to experience firsthand.  Participate in one of the service projects that are ongoing in the village.  These projects focus on sustainable development and may involve installing solar panels, constructing showers and bathrooms, and work in the local school.

After a day of cultural exchange and enjoyable insights into village life, your boat will return to your resort for the evening.

Day 4: The Yasawa Islands
Nanuya Island Resort

Today, enjoy a lovely breakfast next to the ocean before returning to Malakati village to continue with your community service.  The project in the afternoon will be a continuation of the previous day’s work.  Lunch will be served to you Fijian style in the village community center, and you will have a chance to share stories with the local elders and play with the children.

After you have completed your service for the day, it will be time to head back to your resort where you can spend the rest of the afternoon snorkeling, kayaking, or relaxing on the beach.

Day 5: The Yasawa Islands
Nanuya Island Resort

Today is your final day of service with Malakati village. You will spend the day finishing up your service project and working with local community members.  Lunch will again be a traditional Fijian-style meal followed by a cultural Fijian dance called the Meke.  Although you only worked in Malakati for a few short days, you will leave feeling like you have a new family.

Enjoy your last sunset at the resort, and spend the late afternoon playing beach volleyball. You can also treat yourself to a massage by the ocean.

Day 6: Denarau Island
Sofitel Resort and Spa

After breakfast, there will be a short period of time for you to enjoy your island retreat, read a book, or try SCUBA diving or snorkeling.  In the early afternoon, you will take a short transfer to meet your return catamaran transfer back to the main island of Viti Levu.  Expect to arrive back at Port Denarau around six this evening – just in time to enjoy dinner at one of the many restaurants located at the marina.  After dinner, transport will be arranged to take you back to your hotel for the night.

Day 7: Denarau Island
Sofitel Resort and Spa

Get an early start this morning as you depart for an exciting journey into the interior of Fiji’s largest island.  Take in the stunning vistas of the coastline as you wind your way up into the rugged, mountainous landscape.  Stop in a remote village, visit a rural school, bring donations to local families, sit with esteemed village elders, and learn about the challenges faced by the locals who live in these remote mountain villages.  This experience provides a snapshot into the cultural contrast between island and mountain life.

Return back to the coast in time to enjoy dinner this evening.

Day 8: Departure

Today is a flexible day with the opportunity to visit a local orphanage, explore Nadi town to browse the markets, or spend a final hour or two relaxing beside the pool or on the beach.  When it is time for your flight, you will be transported to the airport and assisted with your check-in formalities.
Breakfast is included today.

Depart Nadi International Airport.
